Highlands in the Snow

August 9, 2019

Australia is known for some extreme weather conditions, from the hottest summers to the coldest winters.  2019 was one of those years with the first snowfall in our region for over 20 years.  When we say snowfall, it was very light!!  We have Highland cattle that are 17 years old and never seen snow in their lives.  The cattle adapt very well to the weather in our parts.  Highland cattle have two layers of hair, and during the warmer months they moult.  You will often walk through the paddock and see cattle with dreadlocks.  Our girls love having a brush and we can come away with bags full of hair which has fallen out in the spring months.  Thankfully the girls all had their full winter coats on this day.
